We all know that engagement and efficiency go hand in hand. Therefore it’s crucial for HR professionals to continuously seek ways to strengthen their teams. But how do you ensure that your colleagues feel heard and valued? Here are six practical tips. Whether it’s implementing new initiatives, promoting vitality, or improving the work environment, there are always opportunities to make a difference.

1. Start an idea box

Employees are at the heart of the organization and often see numerous opportunities to improve their team, department, or the entire company. However, both employees and management often lack the space to actively work on these ideas. Yet, the feeling of being heard is incredibly important to foster employee happiness. One way to address this is by starting an idea box. An idea box gives colleagues the opportunity to provide their input in an accessible way. Be sure to also create a structure for reviewing and potentially implementing the ideas. This prevents employees from feeling unheard despite their contributions.

2. Pay attention to your team’s vitality

Promoting vitality within a team is a crucial task for HR, one that can enhance not only physical health but also overall satisfaction and employee productivity. Consider introducing programs that encourage regular physical activities, such as weekly sports events, yoga and meditation sessions, or walking meetings. Additionally, fostering healthy eating habits by offering healthy snacks and lunches at the office can be beneficial. Organizing workshops on stress management and mental health may help your team cope with work pressure and personal challenges cope.

3. Support colleagues struggling with digitalization

During the COVID period digitalization accelerated in many organizations. While it has made us much more efficient in many ways, working ‘digital first’ is not always easy for everyone. Therefore, consider how your organization can support colleagues who find this way of working more challenging. Perhaps there are employeescolleagues who are more skilled in this area and can make time to coach others? Or maybe you can invest time in creating a simple guide for certain tasks. By helping them, your organization can truly take the next step toward digitalization. This will also make work much more enjoyable and easier for your colleagues.

4. Catch up on backlogs

Are you sure there are truly empty schedules? Or is there secretly still a backlog that needs to be addressed? Use any extra time to straighten out all matters within the organization. Piles of paper for personnel files? Clean up and digitize them right away. Also use this time to consider how these backlogs occurred and how your team can prevent them in the future.

5. Ask your team for input

Think carefully about what you want to learn as an HR team and formulate your questions clearly and relevantly. Choose the right moment to send out the survey, such as after a significant project phase or during quieter periods, so that employees have the time and space to respond seriously. Consider allowing anonymous feedback to make employees feel free to be honest and open. By incorporating regular and well-planned feedback moments, you increase the chances of a higher response rate and gain a better understanding of what is happening within your team. This not only helps in identifying areas for improvement but also in celebrating successes and recognizing what’s going well, thereby promoting a positive work atmosphere.

6. Giving back with your colleagues

We all find fulfillment in doing good for others. Is your organization looking for a way to give back? Start by identifying the causes that matter to you and seek out ways your organization can contribute. By collectively deciding where you want to make a difference, you can create a greater impact together. Choose something that aligns with the core values of the organization and approach this with the mindset that it may not yield immediate returns. That way, you will gain the most from the experience.
